The 2008 Senior Citizens Angel Tree booth will be located at Green Tree Mall just inside the Main Entrance between Radio Shack & Lens Crafters from November 14th – 25th. The “Angels & Elves” project is available again this year and will allow those adopting an Angel to meet their Angel in person to present gifts at a supervised Holiday Party.
If you would like to participate in this very special project please visit our booth to adopt your special Angel. If you have any questions regarding the Senior Citizens Angel Tree project please contact Earlene Bennett, Coordinator, at 948-8330 or toll-free at 1-888-948-8330.
Grandma goes into a nursing home. She is allowed $52 a month to cover expenses: clothing, hygiene items, socks, house shoes, and snacks. The kids come by now and again; but after awhile, visits become more and more infrequent.
Grandma wears out her robe and knit pants with a little help from the industrial laundry room. So, what should she use her $52 for this month? A new robe or pants, or the shoes she also needs? Through the Senior Citizens Angel Tree project gifts of warm clothing, toiletries, cookies & candy are provided to nursing home residents and homebound seniors & disabled persons annually during the Holiday Season.
For the past 19 years volunteers and the community have rallied behind the Senior Citizens Angel Tree to make sure Grandma has the necessities that she so desperately needs. Remember those vanilla sandwich cookies Grandpa always liked? Yep, he gets those as well.
LifeSpan Resources and their partners - the Salvation Army, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), GreenTree Mall and an Advisory Committee work together to ensure a successful project hand in hand with numerous local businesses, churches, and civic organizations.
Nursing homes in Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Crawford counties complete a "Wish List" for each of their needy residents. LifeSpan Resources assigns each resident a code number to ensure anonymity and the "Angel Wish List" is put up at the GreenTree Mall booth for adoption by the general public. Companies, churches, and schools can also call LifeSpan Resources to adopt groups of angels.
After adoption, some Angels require additional items for their gift so a merry band of volunteers shop for supplemental items. The gifts are turned over to the nursing facilities to be wrapped and stored until Christmas time when they're distributed to thankful Angels.
The “2007 Corporate Angel” trophy was awarded to Mt. St. Francis Church for adopting 54 angels. A special thank you to Louise Suleiman for coordinating the project at Mt. St. Francis, a new participant in 2007.
